Tips for creating a sleep-friendly environment

Dark Room- Create a dark sleeping environment. Light can have a big impact on our body. Light and darkness are powerful cues to tell our body what we should be doing. Light peeking in from a window or door can send our body “wake- up” cues. Ensure your child’s room is dark for naps and bedtime.
White Noise - Use a constant white noise machine. This keeps constant sound in your child room.
Sleepsack- helps to regulate a child’s temperature.
No toys - a child’s bed is for sleeping, not for playing. There is no need to have flashy toys or fancy gimmicks in your child’s crib.
Put your child to bed wide awake- allow your child to start their journey to sleep without using you as a prop. A common mistake made by parent is ensuring their child is asleep then placing the child in their crib/ bassinet. Feeding, bouncing, rocking, shushing, singing, lulling your child to sleep does not give your child a chance to learn to fall asleep on their own. Instead put your child to sleep wide awake.
